Physiotherapists from Lancashire Teaching Hospitals have received a donation allowing them to maximise recovery and rehabilitation of patients with sports injuries.

The Lancashire Teaching Hospital’s charity team has donated nearly £2,000 worth of equipment to improve their service at Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

The handheld dynanometers they received will guide patients with injuries such as Achillies tendon ruptures, rotator cuff or ACL injuries through recovery.

Clinical lead physiotherapist Linda McCullough explained: “Measuring muscle strength is an important outcome measure used in physiotherapy.”

Describing the dynanometers’ digital reading as “more precise,” Linda said this can help her and her team track patients progress more accurately to ensure they can continue with their rehabilitation.

The physiotherapists will then use the data to access if the patient is fit enough to return to the sport.

Joanna Allitt, the charity team’s fundraising manager, said: “Linda and her team will use the dynanometers daily.

“They are estimating just short of 400 patients a month, in rehab treatment at either the Royal Preston Hospital or Chorley and South Ribble Hospital, will benefit.

“We are therefore delighted to have been able to use our charitable funds to purchase this important equipment to maximise patients’ recovery from serious injury.”
