Emergency gas pipe repairs on a key Preston route already beset with roadworks are due to be completed by the end of this week.

Cadent have appealed for ‘understanding and patience’ as the emergency works to repair a gas leak in Longridge Road continue.

Work began last week adding to the already temporary traffic lights in place for long-running electrical works on the same stretch of road by the Roman Way industrial estate.

During Tuesday (4 February) morning drivers were left in delays of more than half-an-hour as they attempted to make their way from Longridge and Grimsargh to the Bluebell Way junction.

Cadent had initially not given a timescale for when the repairs would be complete but in an update to Blog Preston have now confirmed they are targeting the end of this week (Friday 7 February) to remove their set of lights.

Customer operations area manager for Cadent, Colin Baker, said: We appreciate the understanding and patience from our customers who are impacted by our emergency gas works on Longridge Road, Ribbleton, Preston.

“We made significant progress in recent days and should have everything completed by the end of this week, with the pipeline repaired.

“We are aware of the increased traffic and inconvenience that our traffic lights have caused, as well as the impact of the unrelated roadworks further up the road. I hope people understand the emergency nature of the work, to keep everyone safe.

“I would like to remind all residents, that if at any point, day or night, they smell gas to call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800111999.”

The electrical works, slightly further down Longridge Road, are due to continue until mid-February and will then move into Roman Way itself during March.
