A brand new darts venue is opening in Preston as the sport continues to grow in popularity.

Red Rose Bowl, Greenbank Street, Plungington, has converted a former nightclub on the first floor of the building into a specially designed darting venue with more than 10 boards.

With 24 lanes of bowling downstairs, the new darts venue is aiming to become a major attraction for keen darters.

Red Rose Bowl manager Joanne Gillies said while the venue was already a hub for darts teams and tournaments, the newly kitted out first floor venue would enable them to host more competitions.

And while the likes of teenage sensation Luke Littler have propelled the game to new heights at national level, Preston and surrounding areas have always had a strong darts following among the area’s pubs and clubs.

Joanne said: “What we are doing with the new space is good for darts in Preston because it will allow us to host more tournaments throughout the year.

“The plan is to get the venue opened and hosting regular tournaments. We will see how that goes and then decide what we want to do next in terms of opening it up for wider use.”

Darts fans can have a look round the new venue on Sunday, 1 December, when local darts retailer Red Rose Darts holds a special ‘pop up darts shop’ at the new venue between noon and 4pm.
