The school was described by parents as ‘on lockdown’ and there was a suggestion the man had been carrying a knife. Police confirmed no weapon has been recovered at this time.

A spokesperson for police said: “We were called to Paradise Lane, Leyland, at 8.50am today (15th November) following a report a man had been seen close to a school wearing a balaclava and acting suspiciously.

“Our officers quickly attended and detained a man in his 40s.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident and there is no perceived wider threat to the public.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, quoting log 269 of 15th November 2024.
