A Hoghton artist is holding an exhibition of work that helps promote the narrative of the working class woman.

Norma Foulds will showcase a mix of collage, painting, textiles, sculptures and text in her Sum of the Parts exhibition at SHOP in Preston city centre.

Foulds’ latest work uses the mental process of the life-changing events that are often associated with the death of a loved one; the sadness, the anger, the feeling of emptiness and confusion.

“The work I make can be described as multimedia,” said Foulds. “I create sculptures, collages, and prints that look at issues of age and gender.

“The materials used are taken from domestic and craft-related processes. These include hand and machine sewing, and crochet.”

Foulds continued: “I think that my work helps to promote the narrative of the working class woman. I feel this is often overlooked in the wider artistic community.

“Seeing my current work develop I realise that my voice has a resonance within the community that I live in. My story, experiences, thoughts, and ideas – are important and valid.”

Sum of the Parts will be on display at SHOP, 3 Syke Street, from Thursday 21 November to Sunday 24 November.

A participatory installation event will take place on the Saturday (23 November) between 1pm and 4pm.
