Preston Town Hall on lockdown due to knife threat

The doors of the Town Hall in Lancaster Road were closed on Friday (14 June) lunchtime after threats made.

Preston Police confirmed they were called to the headquarters of Preston City Council.

A police spokesperson told Blog Preston: “We had a report at around 1pm on Friday that a man possibly armed with a machete had been making threats to members of staff and patrols are currently out looking for him.”

A police presence is in place in the city centre and the man is described as white, short, dark hair and has brown eyes.

Blog Preston understands no one was hurt in the incident.

The city council’s deputy chief executive and director of community and wellbeing, Sarah Threlfall, told Blog Preston: “This afternoon, we were made aware of a threat towards staff members. As a precaution the Town Hall was secured, and the police called.

“We take the security and safety of all staff members and service users very seriously. We’d like to thank Preston Police for their quick response.”
