A new vet school for Preston has been taking shape on the city’s university campus.
The University of Central Lancashire’s new School of Veterinary Medicine is being built in Victoria Street on the city campus.
Steel girders are going into place for the new four-storey building which is to house 50,000 square foot of specialised teaching space.

UCLan is pushing heavily into vet medicine courses – with its first cohort of students having already started and working in conjunction with Myerscough College.
Work on the vet school is being put in place by Morgan Sindall Construction.
Managing director for Morgan Sindall’s North business, Simon Arnott, said: “Steel signing events always bring with them an air of excitement as we begin to see the new building take shape.
“We’re very pleased to be working with the University to help provide a much-needed modern learning environment to a bustling campus, and we look forward to working closely together to complete this inspiring new facility for students and staff.”

UCLan’s project manager for the school of veterinary medicine, Bob Turner, said: “After months of work to prepare the foundations of the building, it’s great to see the first steels being moved into place. This is the stage where a lot of people start to realise the scale of the project as they see the outline of the building starting to take shape.”
Road closures are in place in the Victoria Street area – close to the university’s Greenbank building – while work is taking place on the new vet school.
Work began in August last year and is due to be finished in January 2025.
