Preston day-by-day forecast as cold weather arrives to start 2024

As the wintry chill sets in here’s a look ahead at the city’s weather forecast.

A cold weather health alert is currently in force for Preston and Lancashire.

Here’s the latest weather forecast for day-by-day on the week ahead based on the BBC Weather/MeteoGroup forecasting.

Sunday (7 January)
Afternoon – Highs of four degrees, light cloud around and clear skies and temperatures of three degrees.

Evening – Dropping to freezing overnight and a chance of a very icy shower just around midnight

Monday (8 January)
Morning – A bitterly cold morning with temperatures barely above freezing but clearing skies with sunny intervals

Afternoon – Highs of four degrees around 2pm and sunny intervals

Evening – Dropping to freezing overnight and a clear night

Tuesday (9 January)
Morning – Starting off freezing again but temperatures not reaching one degree until 10am

Afternoon – A crisp and clear afternoon with highs of four degrees

Evening – Dropping to freezing by 5pm and a clear night

Wednesday (10 January)
Morning – A slightly warmer morning, up to three degrees from 8am but cloudy

Afternoon – Sunshine breaks through around 3pm and highs of six degrees

Evening – Temperatures staying around three degrees all evening

Thursday (11 January)
Morning – Light cloud around all morning with temperatures getting up to six or seven degrees

Afternoon – Overcast conditions continue and keeps it warmer up to five degrees

Evening – A milder evening, around five degrees and overcast all night

Friday (12 January)
Morning – Staying around 5 degrees all morning with sunshine breaking through from 9am onwards

Afternoon – A sunny afternoon in amongst the cloud and highs of seven degrees

Evening – A cloud evening with temperatures of four degrees

Saturday (13 January)
Morning – Mist very early on and temperatures of three degrees

Afternoon – Overcast and temperatures of six degrees before sunshine starts to break through around 3pm

Evening – Misty conditions around 5pm onwards, with very little breeze around

Sunday (14 January)
Morning – Temperatures back around the freezing mark, building to four degrees by 11am

Afternoon – Sunny spells and a clear afternoon

Evening – Temperatures start to drop again but remains settled weather with chance of a very late icy shower
