Funeral and wake details for a legend of Lancashire’s Sunday Football League have been confirmed.

Anthony ‘Tony’ Dilworth passed away on Christmas Eve.

Prestonian Tony was born in the city and educated at St John Southworth School.

Lancashire Sunday League said Tony’s funeral is taking place at 12noon on Friday 12 January at West Lancs Crematorium (Burscough), Pippin Street, Ormskirk, L40 7SP.

A wake is to be held afterwards at Penwortham Golf Club, Blundell Lane.

A statement from the league said: “Family flowers are asked for only and donations can be made to St Catherine’s Hospice who cared so well for Tony.

“To comply with Tony’s wishes the wearing of black is not required.

“For those within to be there but are unable to attend, the funeral will be livestreamed and log in details will be provided nearer the time.”

A tribute to Tony is being arranged by the Lancashire Sunday League with all fixtures this coming Sunday (7 January) due to include a minute’s applause in Tony’s memory prior to kick-off.
