M61 re-opens after serious crash shut motorway between Horwich and Chorley

A section of motorway near Preston has reopened following a serious crash.


The M61 between Junction 6 (Horwich/Bolton) and Junction 8 (Chorley) was closed northbound for seven hours overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 10.30pm on Tuesday (12 December).

The motorway reopened around 5.30am on Wednesday (13 December) with National Highways saying the motorway is flowing freely.


Lancashire Police thanked drivers for their patience while diversion routes via the A6 were in place.
