Katherine Fletcher hopes local groups will take a look at this initiative

South Ribble organisations and community groups are being urged to express an interest in a government initiative to expand the installation of defibrillators.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) initiative is building on the work of the Government, NHS and others to improve survival rates from out-of-hospital heart attacks.

Latest research showed that accessing these devices within three to five minutes of a cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival by over 40 per cent.

Successful applicants to the fund will be asked to match or contribute to the funding they receive.

South Ribble MP Katherine Fletcher said: ““I hope local groups will take a look at this initiative and come forward to look at having more of these life-saving devices in our South Ribble communities.

“Town halls, community centres, local shops, post offices and local parks are all good places to have one as well as sports grounds and clubs.

“At the moment all a group needs to do is fill out an online form to express an interest and once the DHSC has picked its partner, distribution of funds should progress, if match funding or a contribution is in place.

“I would be happy to speak to any group who is looking to do this and offer support and advice.”

Any groups interested can complete the expression of interest form.
