A hands-on chance to learn how Preston’s heritage is preserved is set to take place on the Flag Market.
The Harris, which is currently undergoing major restoration work, is holding a Heritage Skills Experience Day in association with Conlon Construction.
It will be an opportunity to explore traditional craftsmanship in a ‘hands-on and immerserive environment’.

A number of organisations that preserve and protect heritage skills will be running workshops and demonstrations during the four-hour event on the Flag Market.
Many of the skills being used are those which are being utilised for the restoration and redevelopment of the Harris.
Bullen Conservation are running stone repair workshops where people can observe real-life stone repairs in progress and Preston Vocational Centre will show how a sash window can be dismantled and then put back together.

Cabinet member for culture and leisure services at Preston City Council councillor Peter Kelly said: “We are thrilled to host the Heritage Skills Experience Day at Preston’s Flag Market, providing a unique platform for the public to appreciate and engage with traditional craftsmanship.
“This event not only allows visitors to witness heritage skills in action but also empowers them to participate and gain firsthand experience under the guidance of skilled practitioners.
“It is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage and a reminder of the importance of preserving and passing on these invaluable skills.”
The event will be free to attend and will take place on 31 August from 9am to 1pm. No registration will be needed to attend.
