Fulwood couple David and Jean Dickinson showed their hearts of gold when they threw a party for family and friends at Parkfield Labour Club to celebrate 50 years of marriage.
Instead of gifts for their golden wedding anniversary, David and Jean asked guests, among them Derek Smith, David’s best man from their 1973 nuptials at St Mary’s Church, Ribbleton, for donations to Rosemere Cancer Foundation. They raised £759.

The charity became close to their hearts last year when David, who worked for British Nuclear Fuels before retiring, underwent radiotherapy treatment at Rosemere Cancer Centre for prostate cancer. He still attends the centre for
check-ups but is recovering well.
Other party guests included the couple’s son Marvyn and daughter Carly, their four grandchildren aged between 16 and nine-years-old, one of Jean’s three bridesmaids, sister-in-law Rita Dickinson, and her two flower girls, Belinda and
Deryn Smith. Said Jean, who worked for Askews Book Suppliers before she retired: “It was lovely to bring many of our wedding guests together 50 years on and to be able to support such a worthy cause. We are very grateful to
everyone for their donations.”
