Det Insp Bryony Midgley, from the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with Jack’s loved ones. This is a heart breaking and tragic incident which happened when Jack was enjoying a night out with his friend.

“This is now a murder investigation and while we have made two arrests, we still need to speak to anyone who either saw the altercation or who saw any of the individuals described above either before or after the incident so that we can piece together the events which have led to Jack’s tragic death.

“We know a number of people were present in the area at the time, many of whom provided assistance and first aid. If you have not come forward to speak to police yet, I would urge you to please do so as soon as you can.

“Similarly, I would ask anybody who may have footage which could assist our enquiries to make contact with the police.

“Whatever information you have – no matter how insignificant you think it is – it may be key to the investigation so please come and speak to us.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 quoting log 0161 of August 12th. Alternatively contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers.org.
