One of the city centre’s picturesque, cobbled streets will be celebrating the Platinum Jubilee by hosting a street party from Thursday 2nd until Sunday 5th June.
Winckley Street, which connects Preston’s high street to the green oasis of Winckley Square, will be closed to traffic across the Jubilee weekend, providing a safe and vibrant space for people to enjoy the special celebrations.
Led by business residents, with support from the BID and councils; bars, restaurants, cafes, and retailers will join forces to celebrate in style.
Visitors will be able to dine al fresco, and sip a cocktail in the sun, and browse the boutique shops to a soundtrack of music and cheer.

Serena Baxter, owner of Lonely People cocktail bar on Winckley Street, said: “We’ve wanted to host a street party for a long time, and the Platinum Jubilee is the perfect occasion for us to showcase just how special Winckley Street is.
“We had the idea when we were only able to serve customers outdoors during the covid restrictions period. So many customers, new and old, commented on how great the experience was and that we should do more of this kind of thing in Preston.”

Marvin Baldwin, owner of FORUM bar, said: “It’s long been an ambition of mine to see the street semi-pedestrianised, so that we can create a well-managed and vibrant space for customers to enjoy on a frequent basis.
“This weekend is, in effect, a trial run for us, following which, we will be taking forward a proposition, with support from the BID, Preston’s MP, and city & county councils, to make our café-culture proposition a more permanent one.”
The street will be closed to traffic from Pizza Express to its junction with Fishergate, allowing for Winckley Street residential parking to be facilitated.
