Police launch rape investigation in Preston city centre

Detectives are appealing for further information after a woman was subjected to serious sexual assault in an area off Crooked Lane, Preston city centre.

At around 3.30am, on Sunday 27 February, officers were called to a report of a rape of a woman in her 20s that said she had been attacked by a man in a grassed area between Lancaster Road and Tithebarn Street.

A 24 -year-old man from Preston has been arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in custody. An investigation is now underway and enquiries are ongoing.

The woman is receiving support from trained officers.

A police presence has been in the area between the Guild Hall and St John’s Shopping Centre since early on Sunday morning.
