A tutor from Cardinal Newman College is creating an album of donated songs to raise money for a foodbank charity.Advertisement
Ryan Hamilton, who teaches business studies at the Avenham college, came up with the idea as a way for musicians to help children affected by Covid-19.
After putting out a call for fellow musicians to get involved, Ryan had 20 artist signed up within 24 hours. He has since passed the 60 mark, and is now aiming for 100 artists to give 100 songs.
All proceeds from the album – entitled Best Before 2020 – will go to The Trussell Trust, a charity working to end the need for foodbanks in the UK.
Ryan, who plays with Craig Payne in the musical comedy duo Ryan and Craig, said: “2020 has been the worst year for a range of people. Musicians and children seem to have been hit the hardest, with many musicians being out of work for the foreseeable future.
“This album is a call to arms for all musicians in the UK. It’s time to stop looking for the establishment to help real people and start doing it ourselves.
“Usually we would do a gig or 100 but we can’t due to the Covid-19 situation.
“This is an album made up of artists from around the UK standing up to donate their music for real people. We won’t sit back and let children go hungry in the UK.”
Although the album will feature artists from around the country, there will be plenty of local representation from the likes of Connor Banks, PR5, Doug Perkins and the Spectaculars, and David Shurr.
