No need to worry about finding a babysitter or whether your feet will survive until 4am in those new heels – the latest Tokyo Jo’s reunion is coming to your very own home via a livestream.

After the first successful reunion took place at Easter last year, Evoque in Church Street was set to host another legendary Tokes night this Maundy Thursday (9 April). But with all venues being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, organiser Brian Hudson decided to take the party online.

Brian said: “These past three weeks us DJs have been trying to come up with ways to still entertain the masses. I’ve set up a system that gives a radio quality sound, and am using live streaming service Twitch.

“I had the idea to put the Tokyo Jo’s reunion online because it’s so important to try to keep everyone’s spirits up during these unprecedented times. People who are out of work or just bored at home will be missing their music and nights out. I love playing music and entertaining people, and I want to spread some positivity.”

Brian will host the livestream from his back room from 8pm to 2am. Four of the original Tokes DJs – including Brian – have created exclusive mixes for the night.

Brian said: “There will be all the music that Tokyo Jo’s was known for, including lots of old school classics, with mixes from Dave Jones, Jason Fubar and Neil ‘Ginge’ Leadbetter.

“The DJs have sent voice clips via WhatsApp for me to play during their sets. I’ll also be showing photos from past reunions so people can try to spot themselves in the crowds.”

Brian has even made sure he’s got the okay from his new neighbour.

“We moved house a couple of weeks ago. It’ll be a bit surreal doing the reunion from my new back room, but I’ve done a soundcheck with the neighbour and they’re happy!”
