The third Monday of January has been dubbed the most miserable day of the year – but one Preston cinema is helping make sure customers have no need to succumb to sadness.
Vue Preston at the Capitol Centre in Walton-le-Dale is aiming to banish the Blue Monday gloom by providing a cosy blanket, a pair of slippers and mindfulness tips for a limited number of customers on Monday 20 January.
The initiative follows new research from Vue and University College London that revealed a few hours in front of the big screen can optimise brain function, social connections, productivity and creativity. These findings have been launched in conjunction with Vue’s Get Lost campaign, which encourages viewers to fully switch off and immerse themselves in the full big screen experience.

Graham Royston, General Manager at Vue Preston, said: “Living in a distracting world where we are always online and on the go has meant there is no better time to switch off and watch a good film.
“We are helping our customers relax and beat the Monday blues with a comforting blanket, snug slippers and top tips to manage stress.”
Blue Monday kits are available on request, free of charge, to a limited number of customers of Vue Preston from Monday 20 January on a first-come-first-served basis.
