The Met Office has issued a new weather warning for spells of very heavy rain and flooding.

The yellow warning is in force from 4am until 11pm today (Tuesday 24 September).

Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures, while delays to train and bus services are possible.

The rain is expected to move northeastwards across much of England and Wales, with Preston on the outskirts of the region affected.

Some places may see up to 70mm of rain, with much of this falling in a relatively short space of time. Thunder and lightning is also possible along with strong gusty winds.
