Today’s City of Preston 10k has been cancelled.
In an official announcement from the @PrestonCity10K Twitter account, organisers said the cancellation was due to adverse weather conditions:
“The City of Preston 10k has now been cancelled due to adverse conditions on parts of the course. We have worked through the early hours to displace water which was more than ankle deep, however with the consistent rain we cannot clear the course for the start of the race at 9.30am and for the interest of safety we regret the race will not take place. We will ensure that ALL profits, no matter what the costs today, will go back into the community of Preston.”
A later tweet said that any runners signed up to the race will have free use of JD Gyms Preston today, if they show their race number on entry.
A spokesperson for the Running Bee Foundation, who is behind the race, said: “Apologies to all Preston City 10k runners we couldn’t beat the weather and we couldn’t risk your safety.”
Organisers had earlier appealed for help clearing surface water.
