Warnings of heavy rain and flash flooding have been extended.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning, its lowest level, saying there would be heavy rain from Saturday mid-day onwards.

Now they have revised the warning and extended it for a further three hours.

Heavy rain is expected in Preston and Lancashire from 9am on Saturday (27 July).

Travel disruption is expected due to the strength of the downpours.

The warning is in force until 3pm on Sunday (28 July).

A Met Office spokesman said: “Heavy rainfall may lead to surface water and flooding in a few places and travel disruption.

“There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

“There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater.

“Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.

“Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”
