The plight of an 18-month-old girl with cancer has rallied Prestonians into raising funds for a children’s hospital.
Baby Lils, who has liver and lung cancer, is due to undergo surgery in Leeds in the next few days to remove a tumour on her liver.
In a show of support from the Preston community, a fundraising day has been organised by a family friend, while Environment Cabinet Member Councillor Brian Rollo has had his head shaved at a Preston City Council meeting.
The money raised will be donated to Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, where Baby Lils is being treated.
Baby Lils’ grandfather David Hudson said: “The family are truly overwhelmed and thankful by the generosity and support for Lils from friends and the community. The kind wishes and thoughts have been truly amazing.
“Lils is being treated on ward 84 at RMCH and the nurses and consultants have been brilliant. It’s been a lot for an 18 month old to go through. She’s fought many infections and neutropenic sepsis and still can smile.
“It’s a rollercoaster of emotions for all the family as the future remains unclear. We’re praying for the best outcome and this is just the start of a long road ahead for Lils. She’s been so resilient, it’s her smiles and determination that keep us all going.”

The fundraising day will be opened by Mayor of Preston David Borrow at 12pm on Sunday 7 July at Greenlands Club in Ribbleton.
The day will include a raffle with prizes such as Scott Fitzgerald signed boxing gloves, a bungee jump experience, afternoon tea at Preston Marriott Hotel and Preston North End tickets.
In addition there will be prize bingo, sponsored head shaving, stalls, a bouncy castle, face painting and food.
David said: “We’re hoping everyone can pop down and have an amazing day. Thank you to those who have kindly donated or who are taking part, and a special thank you to the organisers. Both Lils and the RMCH will be extremely grateful.”
