Funding for the initial wheels to turn on a new cycle route connecting Avenham Park to the station has been given.

Lancashire County Council has confirmed it is putting £30,000 towards creating the East Cliff Cycle Link.

Plans unveiled in 2016 outlined how a new bridge is being built and the area underneath will be opened up as part of works on the Park Hotel.

This would connect the South Ribble and Avenham Park cycle route network to the station.

At the moment the way through to the station is via Winckley Square or round through West Cliff and up Fishergate Hill.

A spokesperson for Lancashire County Council said: “A key element of delivering this cycle link involves the replacement of the bridge on East Cliff, which is currently taking place as part of the redevelopment of the Park Hotel.

“Any cycle link would run under this bridge.

“The funding recently agreed by the county council means that as the Park Hotel plans proceed, we’ll be well placed to develop the cycle link plans, along with our colleagues at Preston City Council.”

£15,000 was agreed by the county council towards the new cycle link.
