A Preston city centre restaurant attached to a new hotel has now opened to the public.

Flanagans’ in Camden Place is part of the Winckley Square Hotel.

With a chessboard-style floor it brings a touch of opulent class to the city’s dining scene.

Operated by Jayne Flanagan, who also owns the Mad Hatters Tea Shop in Longton, she says business has been brisk in the early weeks.

She said: “We opened in early January and we’re now seeing lots of bookings – particularly for parties and functions.

“The venture was a joint one with Max at the Winckley Square Hotel and I feel it’s working really well.”

The restaurant can seat 42 diners and has created more than 10 jobs.

Jayne said: “We’re down a side-street on Winckley Square so we’re expecting footfall to increase as the spring and summertime arrive.

“But everyone who has been in so far has been very pleased and we hope to see that grow and continue.”

Jayne said the restaurant is planning to expand into afternoon teas, something she is famous for at Mad Hatters, but also wants to carve out a reputation for an excellent Sunday roast.

Jayne said: “Within the city centre I think there’s limited options for a really good Sunday roast dinner. So that’s something we’re working on.

“And if there’s one dish I would urge anyone to try on their first visit, it’s our Lancashire hotpot.

“Not just any hotpot, it’s a posh hotpot. Golden potatoes on top and big chunks of meat. It’s the best, I think.”

Max Walker-Williams, who operates the Winckley Square Hotel, said he was pleased with how the restaurant had been developing.

He said: “It’s the first time I’ve had a restaurant within one of my developments.

“And I think Jayne and I come from a similar place in terms of wanting the best and having that eye for detail and quality.

“I think having Flanagan’s here just helps make the Winckley Square Hotel something very special.”
