A Tokyo Jo’s reunion night is set to bring “The Ultimate Discotheque” back to Preston.
Taking place in the same Church Street building – now Evoque – the night will feature chart and party dance anthems from the Tokes era of 1990 to 2004, played by a selection of original DJs.
Special guest appearances are being lined up, and classic drinks like Hooch, Metz, Castaway and Rolling Rock are expected to feature.
There’s even talk of free double-sided sellotape being available so punters can re-create the sticky carpets of old.
The man behind the reunion night, Brian Hudson, started working behind the bar at Tokes in 1991 before going on to become a lighting engineer.
Brian said: “I set up a Tokyo Jo’s memories Facebook page a couple of years ago but with digital being non-existent in the 1990s and early 2000s it was hard to know what to do with it. That’s when the idea for a reunion night came up.

“When I first posted about a possible reunion a year ago it was like, ‘Wow, okay, people really want this’.
“Tokyo Jo’s always had great DJs and from 9pm to 2am people flooded in and went mad for the music. It was commercial but the DJs were still banging out new tunes. That, plus the drinks deals, made Tokes iconic – people from all over the country knew the place.
“Nowadays, for that age range of 35 and over who were into commercial, there isn’t really anywhere to go out and let their hair down, have a laugh and listen to music.
“Since the tickets have been released the response has been mind-blowing. I’ve had to keep my phone on charge as I’m getting constant notifications. We’ve sold 250 tickets in just over a week, and have even got people coming from the USA and Hong Kong.
“The night will be all about reminiscing and bringing back the music and the laughs with the DJs.”
The Tokyo Jo’s Reunion will take place on Thursday 18 April from 9pm to 4am. Early bird tickets are £5 with a £1 booking fee and are available from Skiddle. Follow the Facebook page for updates.
