Motorists in Preston and South Ribble are being asked if they saw a crash on a main route to Chorley.

The crash at 8.40pm on Friday (29 December) shut the A49 Wigan Road for around five hours.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service had to cut free a man from an Audi RS3.

The driver lost control close to the junction with Brookwood Way and collided with a lamppost.

Lancashire Police say the car was being pursued by police and is believed to have been stolen from the Blackburn area on Friday.

The driver of the Audi, a 19-year-old man from Ilford, Essex, suffered serious injuries in the crash. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

Police have arrested him on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving, failing to stop and obstructing police.

The road reopened late on Friday evening.
