Lancashire Encounter returns to the heart of the city this weekend for the annual festival celebration.
Festival goers might need their brollies this year however, with showers and windy gusts set to reach Preston.
It’s not all gloom and doom though, with sunny spells likely to intersperse throughout the weekend.
Here’s an hour-by-hour weather forecast for Preston this weekend:
Friday (21 September)
12 noon – 11 degrees with heavy rain expected. Winds reaching sky high speeds of 20mph
1pm – Remaining at 11 degrees with heavy showers and dark cloud
2pm – This will be the windiest part of the day, with gusts of 23mph. Heavy rain lightens to showers and temperatures slowly rise to 12 degrees
3pm – Showers continue and there’s 60% chance of precipitation
4pm – Get your umbrellas out, as the rain continues to pour. Steady temperatures at 12 degrees
5pm – Winds easing to 18 mph now. Looks like a rainy Friday
6pm – Lancashire Encounter kicks off with The Commuter Show at the Harris. Temperatures drop to 11 degrees
7pm – Amy Dean’s community film launches at The Harris. Showers lighten slightly
8pm – The sun makes its retreat, with light showers continuing
9pm – Finally, the rain slackens off with temperatures remaining constant at 11 degrees. Wind speeds now at 9mph
10pm – A cloudy night sees the return of light showers around 10pm
11pm – The rain eases towards 11pm however its set to be a cloudy night
12 midnight – Partly cloudy night continuing into the early hours.

Saturday (22 September)
1am – No rain for now, although the clouds remain. temperatures starting at 11 degrees
2am – A slight drop in temperature to 10 degrees.
3am – More clouds appear around 3am. Humidity at 66%
4am – Humidity rises slightly to 67%
5am – Wind speed is set at 10mph
6am – The sun starts to rise at 6.56am with clouds slowly shifting.
7am – A sky full of cloud and humidity rising to 70%
8am – 10 degrees with lots of cloud
9am – Sunny intervals with temperatures increasing to 11 degrees
10am – Temperatures continuing to rise to 12 degrees
11am – The festival on Saturday kicks off with the Soundscape bath at the Harris. Lots of cloud remains
12 noon – A windy afternoon, speeds of 10mph. The Actual Reality Arcade launches on the Flag Market
1pm – Looking dry however there will be cloud. Winds speeding up to 11mph
2pm – Winds drop to 9mph and no rain. Phew!
3pm – Humidity is at 60%
4pm – No Bull event is at the Covered Market. Winds continuing to slack from here, now at speeds of 7mph
5pm – Humidity is jumping up to 63%
6pm – Temperatures are at 12 degrees
7pm – The Short Story Slam is at the Harris. The sun will set around 7.10pm
8pm – Temperatures slowly decreasing to 11 degrees
9pm – Winds will drop to 3mph now
10pm – A sky of cloud still, temperatures now at 10 degrees
11pm – Looking like a dry night and humidity is at 80%
12 midnight – Clouds covering the city, and temperatures are at 10 degrees
Sunday (23 September)
1am – Very good visibility and with a breeze at 4mph
4am – Temperatures drop to 9 degrees. No showers are expected
6am – Met Office issue a yellow weather warning from 6am through to midnight for the North West. Persistent rain can be expected throughout the day
7am – The sun makes its first appearance just before 7am. Temperatures steady at 9 degrees
10am – Not much change just yet, temperatures remain at 9 degrees
1pm – Take a jacket with you, as light showers will accompany sunny intervals. Wind speeds increase dramatically to 11 mph
4pm – Hackney Colliery Band is at Avenham Park. The winds don’t stop just yet, creeping up to 13mph
7pm – Clouds finally clear with the rain slacking off into the evening, however it will be a windy night with speeds of 8mph
10pm – Humidity is at 80% and temperatures at 8 degrees finishing the weekend with a dry night.
