A Chorley man has been arrested following an allegation of rape in Preston city centre.
Preston Police closed off Stoneygate, between Preston Minster and Hogarths, following the incident on Saturday (25 August).
Police say around 3am a 34-year-old woman was raped.
An update from police on Saturday evening said a 29-year-old man from Chorley had attended a police station.
He was arrested on suspicion of rape and remains in police custody.
Stoneygate was closed off for much of Saturday while forensics teams continued to work the scene.
DI Warren Atkinson said on Saturday morning: “I would like to reassure people that incidents of this nature are rare in Preston city centre.”
On Sunday (26 August) evening police said the 29-year-old man had been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
