Emergency services have been warning of difficult driving conditions on the motorway network around the city.
In Lea a notorious junction has seen a large expanse of surface water appear.
Greaves Town Lane where it meets Blackpool Road regularly has standing water and it’s quickly swelled with the onset of the heavy rain.
Thursday’s forecast shows more rain expected throughout the day with thundery showers expected during mid-afternoon before it brightens up into the evening.
Friday (1 September) is expected to be bright and sunny with highs of 18 degrees.
Saturday (2 September) is much the same with highs of 20 degrees, while Sunday (3 September) temperatures drop and the rain returns.
