Preston’s heatwave is set to come to an abrupt end as the heavens open.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected from the early hours of Wedneday (21 June).

The Met Office has issued a weather warning covering the majority of Northern England and it covers Lancashire and Preston.

The yellow weather warning – the lowest level – is in place from 3am on Wednesday.

Torrential downpours, frequent lightning and a chance of hail is in the warning from the Met Office.

Travel disruption is likely during the afternoon with ‘sudden localised flooding’ warned on transport routes.

The warning is in force until 6am on Thursday (22 June).
