Prestonians trying to get home using the M6 are experiencing long delays.
A crash involving a lorry has seen the northbound side of the motorway to the south of Preston closed at junction 28, although one lane was reopened shortly before 9pm.
North West Motorway Police said northbound and southbound have been closed following the incident shortly before 6pm on Wednesday (19 April). The southbound direction was re-opened at 6.25pm.
Police confirmed ten other vehicles, all cars, were involved in the crash.
One person has been flown to Royal Preston Hospital with serious injuries – their current condition is unknown.
Delays on the northbound side were back to junction 27 and there was a four-mile tailback.
Normal traffic conditions are now being experienced and the motorway fully re-opened at 2am (Thursday 20 April) after barrier repairs were completed.
