Two men have been charged following the death of a man on New Year’s Day in Preston.

Nathan Richardson, 19, of Bury Road in Bolton, is charged with murder and will appear in Preston Magistrates Court this morning (January 5). Luke Jenkinson, 22, of De Lacy Street in Preston, is charged with assisting an offender and will also appear in court today.

Preston Police launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 67-year-old man near the Plungington Community Centre around 8.30am on Sunday, January 1.

The victim was taken to Royal Preston Hospital in a “critical condition” and later died due to a head injury suffered in the attack.

Police say he is understood to have been the subject of a serious assault prior to being found.

A third male, a 17-year-old boy also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, has been bailed pending further enquiries, Lancashire Police confirmed.
