Cardinal Newman College’s new building
Cardinal Newman College, located in the centre of Preston, has been closed on Friday (2 December) due to a reported gas leak.
The college notified students via their Twitter account @Newman_College that: “there is a potential gas leak at college” and that everyone is being advised to: “wait outside the buildings”.
The college then added: “college is closed to students today.”
Newman College announces closure
The announcement comes late in the morning for some students at Newman, as many travel from surrounding areas such as Blackpool and Blackburn, meaning they face long journeys back.
So far, the announcement has been met with mixed response, with one Twitter user responding: “I’ve trekked an hour and a half for college!” and another user writing: “yeee boy” (a common internet ‘meme’ reaction to ‘good’ news).
