Preston and the UK vote to leave the European Union

Preston joined the majority of the United Kingdom in voting the leave the European Union.

With a turnout of 68.72% the Leave campaign commanded a 53.27% share of the vote, with 46.65% voting to Remain.

The total number of votes cast were 30,227 for Remain and 34,518 for Leave.

The national vote picture has given a 51.9% share to Leave and 48.1% to Remain, so Preston was higher than the national average in its preference to no longer be part of the European Union.

Campaigning in the city saw visits from Boris Johnson, Ed Miliband, Michael Gove and David Cameron making their cases during the campaign.
