Heavy rain is due once again in Preston
What’s known as Mad Friday is set to be a washout in Preston.
The last Friday before Christmas is expected to be a big night out for many Prestonians in the city centre.
The Met Office has issued a weather warning for heavy rain from 12noon on Friday to the early hours of Sunday morning.
The final shopping weekend for Christmas will also be a damp one, with the Met Office warning of “localised disruption”.
The chief forecaster says 20mm of rain or more may fall during the Friday and Saturday.
They state: “Exceptionally mild and moist air will arrive across the UK through Friday from the southwest. This will remain over the country for much of Saturday before erratically clearing east.
“The combination of the mild, moist air and some strong winds will lead to some heavy rain at times which could be particularly persistent over areas of high ground.”
Preston has been lashed with heavy rain and strong winds for much of November and December.
Flood warnings have been raised regularly on the River Ribble which has been very high at Samlesbury and Walton-le-Dale for a number of weeks.
