Heritage Open Days is a nationally recognised event which tours the country, bringing to life a city’s hidden treasures.

Preston has so much to offer that we’ve put together this day-by-day guide, helping you get around and explore the parts of the city you never knew existed- and all for free. The Heritage Open Days website has a full breakdown of everything in Preston and the surrounding area.

Beginning on Thursday September 10 and running right the way through until Sunday September 13, we’ve broken down the times, locations and booking information to help you have a seamless ride through history.

Friday September 11

Haslam Park and Local Nature Reserve Bristow Avenue, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, Lancashire, PR2 1JE

Haslam Park

The Victorian Park and nature reserve offer a tree walk and guided tour of both attractions. They are both at the same location and the talk will cover the natural history of the area including its links to Lancaster canal.

Tours: 11am and 2pm.

There is a maximum of 20 people per tour, no booking is required. Also open Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Samlesbury Hall Preston New Road, Samlesbury, Preston, Lancashire, PR5 0UP

Samlesbury Hall

This Lancashire stately home shows the history of 1325 maintained to allow modern day families to experience its archive and history. The live animals in the grounds will be a huge hit with the kids, as well as educational for all.

Open: 11am until 4pm.

There is a maximum of 100 people per session. There is no tour and no booking is required. Also open Thursday and Sunday.

St. Mary’s RC Church Brownedge Lane, Bamber Bridge, Preston, Lancashire, PR5 6SP 

The interior of this church is where the beauty lies as the church has seen rennovations and extensions since it’s beginnings as a chapel in 1780. One for those appreciative of the tall spires and high ceilings often found, and is also said to be popular with stained glass enthusiasts.

Open: 1pm until 5pm.

There are no tours for this location, but no booking is required. This event is not suitable for the under 5’s. Also open Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Twelve Tellers 14-15 Church street, Preston, Lancashire, PR1 3BQ

The Twelve Tellers

The Twelve Tellers will be known to most as a pub due to recent restoration, but it opened as a savings bank in 1907 with history dating back even further to 1776. The restorations we see today in the pub are sensitive to that of its original architecture. Visitors will have exclusive access to the boardrooms which have benefitted from the impressive restorations.

Open: 10am until 6pm.

There are no tours for this location, but no booking is required. Also open Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
