Preston businesses have been plugged into superfast broadband connections 136 times since a government-funded scheme kicked in.
AdvertisementThe City Deal scheme allows small and medium-size firms to access free faster broadband connections.
Preston City Council has been administering the £249,700 scheme and so far 90 super-fast connections have been activated since April with a further 46 bespoke connections also done.
The scheme is “exceeding expectations” and it is estimated by the end of March 227 firms will have taken advantage of the fund.
Up to £3,000 can be spent per connection, with the average being £1,000.
In July we reported how digital agency Bespoke, based in Bamber Bridge, had used the scheme to speed up its connection and was finding its business increasing as a result.
Councillors on the city council’s cabinet are to be briefed on the progress of the scheme on Wednesday 12 August.
