Preston is set for heavy rain during Bank Holiday Monday evening and into the first working day of the week.
AdvertisementThe Met Office has issued a warning of rain sweeping in across Preston and Lancashire with up to 50mm potentially falling in a few hours. The warning is in place from 8pm on Monday to 10am on Tuesday.
A chief forecasters assessment says: “Areas of showers that have affected northern England and north Wales during Bank Holiday Monday may merge together during the evening as an area of slightly stronger winds runs into the area from the north.
“There has been a great deal of variation in the timings and intensity of the resulting area of rain but there is a low likelihood that as these showers combine they could bring some very heavy rainfall to the warning area.
“There is a great deal of uncertainty in these developments with many areas only seeing small amounts of rainfall. Where the heaviest rain falls some localised flooding is possible and the public should be aware of the potential for disruption.”
In mid-August areas to the south of the city, in Lostock Hall and Walton-le-Dale, saw flash flooding after a number of intense downpours.
