A chicken processing plant is to expand in Preston.
AdvertisementGafoor Pure Halal Ltd applied to add a three storey extension to its factory on Fletcher Road.
The firm has received 145 letters of support for its plans which are due to create new jobs and secure the future of the chicken processing firm.
Those writing in support of the firm included fellow local businesses, traders and a local chicken farm.
Seven letters of objection were received by Preston City Council who said the smells in the area would be made worse, and also an increase in traffic to the surrounding roads.
Planning officers at the city council recommended the plans for approval. They write: “The proposal would be beneficial in improving the facilities for storage and refrigeration at existing factory premises and would not significantly affect vehicular movements or parking within the site or the amenities of
neighbouring residents. The proposed building would have an acceptable appearance in terms of its design and materials. As such, the proposal complies with the relevant provisions of the development plan and there are no material considerations which outweigh this finding.”
Network Rail have asked the developers submit a risk assessment and method statement for how nearby rail infrastructure is to be protected during the construction phase of the extension.
Councillors will decide on the plans during planning committee on Monday 12 January from 10am at the Town Hall.
