Strong winds are expected

Strong winds are being forecast to rip across Preston and Lancashire on Sunday.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning saying strong gusts are expected with some heavy showers.

The warning, which covers most of the North of England, could see gusts of between 50-60 mph on the coasts and 40-50 mph inland.

The chief forecaster said: “While such wind gusts would not be unusual in the autumn and winter, they are likely to pose a few more problems coming in the summer holiday period: as such, some minor disruption to transport and outdoor activities is possible, for example delays to ferries, bridge restrictions and perhaps minor damage to trees.”

weather forecasters are predicting settled weather for Saturday but these gusts are expected to disrupt during Sunday and into the early part of Monday.
