Rubble as one of the former hospital buildings is demolished

Once one of the largest mental hospitals in the country, these haunting pictures show the demolition of the Whittingham Mental Hospital.

Sitting just on the edge of Preston the buildings have been abandoned for many years.

They prove a mecca for urban explorer photographers who are taking pictures before developers build hundreds of new homes.

Flickr user scrappynw ventured in to snap these pictures showing the bricks coming tumbling down and also the state of some of the former hospital buildings.
