Visit Mystery Tea House in Preston on Cannon Street while you can as it may not be there for much longer.

A for sale notice has been erected on the front of the shop.

According to reports an option to take up an extension of a 6 year lease in 2012 was not exercised and the current lease expires on 7th July 2015. Preston firm Robert Pinkus & Co are advertising the property for sale at offers in excess of £140,000.

Considered my many as a ‘hidden jewel’ the tea shop is a highlight of Cannon Street and indeed Preston with its bewildering array of teas from all around the world and delightful owners (Maciej Biernat and Natalia Staszkowian) ask you to try and enjoy your favourite teas in ‘mysterious and pleasant atmosphere’. Food is also on the menu with cakes, toasted sandwiches and Tuscani Baguettes plus you can browse and buy from a a huge range of tea accessories and sets.

With a 4.5 out of 5 review rating on Tripadvisor the quaint little shop is said to be ‘quite possibly Preston’s best cafe’. One reviewer recently commented “Really love this place. There’s a range of sandwiches, Eastern European stews and soup – but this place is really about the phenomenal range of teas available, which are matched to appropriate tea pots.- so Japanese style green tea comes in a Japanese tea pot with the handle at right angles to the spout, while Oolong comes in an elegant, long necked Chinese pot. Service is knowledgeable and incredibly friendly, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. An outstanding place.”

It would be a great shame if Preston lost this wonderful little place.

We contacted the owners for comment and were relieved to hear that the building is for sale but not the business itself.

They tell us they have the right to remain at the property until June 2015 and “after that in the worst case, if we do not sign a new contract, we’ll change the location.” They didn’t comment if the business will remain in Preston but it is good news anyway.

If you want to view the property contact Danny Pinkus T- 01772 769000 E-
