This weekend saw the end of an era at one of Preston’s most popular real ale venues.

Bitter Suite on Fylde Road has been run for the past seven years by Paula Bosworth and Kay Drummond who have now decided to call it a day.

Under their management the pub has enjoyed a reputation for good beer and quality live music.

Over the years there have been regular appearances by local bands including The Band with No Name, Pike, Pinto Beans, The Silver Bell Band, The Pink Torpedoes and Dennis Delight, to name just a few.

Their reputation in real ale circles was second to none and Kay’s home cooked meals were a legend in their own lunchtime.

After failing to negotiate a new lease with the building’s owners, the duo took the decision to call the final last orders this weekend. Saturday night was their official leaving do when even standing room was at a premium.

The capacity crowd of well-wishers enjoyed music from The Band with No Name and managed to drink the pub dry! As a fitting finale Paula and Kay joined the band on stage for a farewell boogie, once more showing that they’ve always been game for a laugh.

On Sunday evening ‘the regulars’, myself included, got together to give the two landladies a fitting send off. Songs were sung, dances danced, pictures posed for and numerous heartfelt hugs were exchanged.

Rumours about who will take over the pub have been many and varied, but one thing’s for sure, Paula and Kay are a formidable act to follow. They admitted that they’ll miss their friends in the pub and they thanked all the customers for their loyal support over the years. Thanks for the memories ladies, and good luck with whatever you do in the future.
