A Review by Paul D. Swarbrick & Gillian A. Lawson

There is no doubt that Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein would have been extremely proud of the production of the Rodgers & Hammerstein concert performed by The Proscenium Theatre Company with musical director Jim Thomas on Wednesday evening at Saint John’s Minster in Preston.

There were some of the greats from the musicals such as Carousel, The King and I, Oklahoma, South Pacific and The Sound of Music, filling the minster with a selection of splendorous and melodic songs such as ‘Hello Young Lovers’, ‘If I Loved you’, ‘Younger Than Springtime’, ‘The Sound of Music’ and many more.

The Proscenium Theatre Company and accompanying orchestra performed the chorus numbers and solos with passionate and harmonious ardour, occasionally adding a touch of playful humour which altogether created an evening of delightful and very enjoyable entertainment. One could easily say that it was truly an… ‘Enchanted Evening’

The next presentation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein concert is at 7.30pm on Friday 28th September at St. John’s Minster, Church Street, Preston. PR1 3BU.  Tickets £12
