Five UCLan students have been raising awareness about the local Samaritans by offering free hugs to anyone around the university campus.
As part of their public relations course, the students are working with the charity to help them raise awareness of the organisation that offers confidential, emotional support to anyone in despair.
Petra Opelova, the online coordinator of the campaign, said; “The Samaritans are a very worthwhile charity.
“They have an amazing volunteering training programme that not only does create a sense of self-achievement but it is also great for people interested in, or studying psychology and sociology.”
Their main aim is to raise awareness and also generate interest of UCLan students to hopefully want to become part of the Preston Samaritans volunteering team.
The group will host a walk-in event on Monday 21 November in the university’s Greenbank building (room 228) between 2 and 5pm for students to find out more about what the charity do and how to become a volunteer.
