Preston Town Hall has reduced opening hours during the Christmas period

With Christmas over all eyes now turn to New Year celebrations as we prepare to say goodbye to 2010 and hello to 2011.

Preston City Council services are still disrupted during this holiday period, so here’s a run-down of the opening times for key services. If you’re stuck for ideas of what to do with the kids during this holiday season, look no further than our seven tips for family fun this Christmas.

Bin collections

All brown bin collections stop until Monday 17th January 2011.

Properties that would normally have their refuse of food waste collected on a Monday or Tuesday will have been leafleted about alternative collection arrangements.

Red-lidded boxes are for mixed paper and card, yellow-lidded boxes are for mixed plastic bottles, glass and cans. Materials no longer have to be sorted within your boxes.

Any extra recyclables can be placed in untied bags by boxes. The council will not collect any extra wheelie bin waste.

Council offices

Town Hall, Lancastria House and the Housing Advice office on Birley Street are closed until 8am on Tuesday 4th January 2011

Tourist Information Centre

Closed Monday 27th December and Tuesday 28th December, but open Wednesday 29th December and Thursday 30th December from 10am to 5.30pm. Then closed until Tuesday 4th January at 10am.

Harris Museum and Art Gallery

Closed Monday 27th December and Tuesday 28th December, but open Wednesday 29th December, Thursday 30th December and Friday 31st December from 10am to 5pm.  It re-opens on Tuesday 4th January at 10am.

Fulwood Leisure Centre

Open 9am to 4pm on Monday 27th December and Tuesday 28th December. On Wednesday 29th December and Thursday 30th December slightly oen earlier at 7am to 3pm. Closed New Years Eve and New Years Day and open as normal from Sunday 2nd January.

West View Leisure Centre

Open 10am to 4pm on Monday 27th December, from 11am to 7pm on Tuesday 28th December, Wednesday 29th December and Thursday 30th December. On New Years Eve you can get fit from 6.30am to 3pm. Closed on New Years Day and open as normal from Sunday 2nd January.

Markets

Markets are closed on Monday 27th December, Tuesday 28th December, New Year’s Day, Sunday 2nd January and Monday 3rd January. The Saturday Bric-a-Brac Market is closed on New Year’s Day and re-opens Saturday 8th January. All markets closed at 4pm on New Year’s Eve.
