It was Saturday night and the atmosphere was more Phoenix Nights than a typical rock venue, but having played at The Bitter Suite once before, Ignition/UK must have had a fair idea of the type of audience awaiting them. However, as soon as the band launched into Sonic Burn, word got around and the place slowly started filling up with a livelier, younger crowd.
Ignition/UK certainly didnât fail to deliver. Brimming with the very buzz of life, the raw energy of this band packed a punch that slapped you around the head whilst strumming a tune on your ribcage. The lead singer, Simon Speakman Cordall, came across as a mixture of the angst of a young Joe Strummer with the passion of Ian Curtis, as he leapt around the stage and at one point, onto neighbouring tables. The emotions clearly etched onto his face he commanded the full attention of the crowd.
Ignition/UK consists of bass player Andy Wack, supporting singer and electric guitar genius D.C. Hill, drummer Matty J Brown and lead singer Simon Speakman Cordall. Theyâve not been on the circuit long but already their punk rock sounds are creating quite a stir around the Preston scene.
This is the best Iâve seen them play and by the time of their last song, Boom, you truly felt that youâd been chewed up and spat out, but in a thoroughly enjoyable way. Real music fans should watch out for this band, their talent surely cannot go unnoticed for much longer.
