Stand-up poet Kate Fox is returning to Preston with her new Doctor Who-inspired show.
After a sell-out show at the historic Harris Museum in 2019, as part of Lancashire Fringe Festival, Fox makes a welcome return to the city with her unique mix of poetry and comedy – making her the only stand-up poet in the UK.
The show, which takes place on Wednesday 14 May at The Ferret, is a funny, heartfelt journey through late-diagnosed autism, identity and belonging.
Storyteller Fox is known for her humour and feminist poetry. The neurodivergent advocate uses her latest show to explore neurodiversity through the lens of Doctor Who.
The BBC Radio 4 regular has created a new show based on the premise that, like the TARDIS in the long-running BBC sci-fi show, we are all Bigger on the Inside.

The show, which has also been published as a book, takes audiences on a funny, thought provoking and poetic trip through time and space as she uncovers new ways to think about labels like Autism and ADHD. Fox finds inspiration in Doctor Who and in the passionate happiness of neurodivergent joy.
Fox said: “I’ve imagined a universe in which it is understood that energy ebbs and flows in people and spaces and eye contact, body language and facial expressions are not policed or queried. This is a sci-fi journey of hope and healing.”
The poet is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 4’s spoken word cabaret The Verb and has made two comedy series for station.
She was Poet in Residence for the Glastonbury Festival and the Great North Run and has completed a PhD in stand-up comedy.
She is the author of ‘Where There’s Muck There’s Bras: True Stories of the North of England’s Women’ published by Harper North, and poetry collections including ‘On Sycamore Gap’ (Harper North, 2024), ‘Bigger On the Inside’ (Smokestack Books, 2024) and ‘The Oscillations’ (Nine Arches Press, 2021).
Where There’s Muck There’s Bras was also a hugely successful touring show, uncovering lost and hidden stories about powerful Northern women.
Tickets are available from Skiddle.
