A new hub for pool and sports enthusiasts has arrived on Mornington Road, just off New Hall Lane in Fishwick.
Owner of KC’s Pool and Sports Club, Ken Marland saw an opportunity to breathe new life into a familiar, but long-neglected, building.
The journey to opening KC’s was somewhat unexpected for Ken and his wife Caroline.

Ken said: “Basically my mate rang me and said, ‘this club is for sale’ and I know it very well, so we bought it.”
The decision to focus on pool was a natural one for Ken and his family.
He said: “We decided to make it a pool club as my wife Caroline is manager of Lancashire County Pool.
“We bought it and refurbed it, it had been closed 10 years, it had been fire-bombed, it had been wrecked, the roof was leaking and in four months we’ve turned it round and turned it into a very smart club.
Like with darts, pool is becoming popular again. The club plans to install dart boards in the extension as well as the pool tables.
Ken emphasised the strong community aspect of pool.
He said: “Pool is a community, everybody knows everybody. It’s just great when they’re all there, they’re happy, and they like playing pool.
“We want to extend, which we are going to do we’re applying for further planning permission now and we want to make it a very successful club in Lancashire and surrounding areas.”
